Nikola Vujović – instrument of the BIA and the Serbian Orthodox Church in Vučić’s strategy to destabilize Kosova

Vujović represents this dangerous synergy between the security apparatus and Serbia’s ideological instruments in Kosova

The case of former police officer Nikola Vujović is a clear example of how Aleksandar Vučić’s regime, through security structures and the Serbian Orthodox Church, is systematically intervening to destabilize the north of Kosova and incite interethnic conflict. This individual’s story is not an isolated case but part of a broader Belgrade strategy to undermine Kosova’s sovereignty through hybrid operations, including espionage, propaganda, and the creation of internal influence networks.

Vujović was part of the Kosova Police for more than a decade, holding important roles in northern municipalities where the influence of parallel Serbian structures has always been significant. He was among the few ethnic Serb officials who acquired Kosova citizenship and formally joined its institutional system, benefiting from the integration of Serbian structures after the Brussels Agreements.

To the public and institutions, Vujović presented himself as an official contributing to law and order in a sensitive area of the country. However, after leaving the Kosova Police, it became clear that he was an active instrument of the Serbian Security and Information Agency (BIA), supported by the Orthodox Church and committed to a broader strategy aimed at undermining peace, order, and the functioning of the Kosova state in its north.

He represents this dangerous synergy between the security apparatus and Serbia’s ideological instruments in Kosova. He was not merely a local voice of discontent but an operational link – coordinated, financed, and supported by the Belgrade regime to stage and escalate conflict, especially in the north.

After resigning from the Kosova Police at the end of 2022, Vujović emerged publicly as one of the leading figures in the protests and violent actions in northern Kosova. He was among the key individuals who incited clashes with NATO troops and the Kosova Police during the May 2023 riots and beyond, when criminal structures led by the terrorist Milan Radoičić opposed the installment of Albanian mayors in municipal offices in Leposaviq, Zubin Potok, Zveçan, and North Mitrovica.

Vujović has been identified as one of the organizers of the violence during these events, which resulted in injuries to dozens of KFOR soldiers and local police officers. He was also involved in networks that coordinated the distribution of weapons, propaganda materials, and payments to mobilized Serb youth carrying out destabilizing acts against Kosova’s constitutional order.

After leaving his position, Vujović took on operational roles within BIA networks in Kosova and Serbia. Confirmed information indicates that he acted as an intermediary between intelligence operatives and illegal security and logistics structures in the north of the country, which include former members of the Serbian gendarmerie and local criminals connected to smuggling and terrorism.

A particularly important aspect of this case is the fact that Vujović held Kosova citizenship, which not only allowed him to be recruited into the Kosova Police but also granted him privileged access to sensitive data, internal structures, and operational information on the activities of security institutions.

Following his direct involvement in the violent events of 2023 and with the launch of investigations by the Special Prosecution Office for acts of terrorism and collaboration with illegal structures, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kosova, in accordance with the Law on Citizenship, decided to revoke Vujović’s citizenship. This decision is based on the article that provides for the removal of citizenship from individuals whose activities pose a serious threat to public order and national security.

Vujović’s expulsion is more than just an administrative action, it is proof that the state of Kosova is functional and determined to protect itself from infiltrated agents and subversive actors. It shows that there is no room for structures and individuals serving the agendas of Vučić, the BIA, or the Orthodox Church.

Currently, Vujović is used by the Serbian propaganda apparatus as a “former police officer persecuted by Kosova,” with the aim of spreading the narrative that Serbs in the north are victims of oppression rather than protagonists of destabilizing acts. He has become a symbolic figure in Belgrade’s rhetoric, which seeks to delegitimize the lawful actions of Kosova’s institutions and portray security operations as “attacks on the Serbian people.”

Nikola Vujović is not merely an individual with a questionable past, but a deliberate agent of a broader Serbian state strategy aimed at keeping Kosova divided, unstable, and dependent on external intervention. His case should serve as a turning point for Kosova’s institutions to act decisively against all forms of infiltration, to protect sovereignty, and to ensure peace and security for all its citizens. /The Balkan Report/
